It is with great sadness that we announce the cancellation of our planned event this year.

Today, we face a totally changed geopolitical situation. This has led to our invited speakers choosing not to participate in the event, which we of course respect. The cancellations force us to cancel the entire event.

We very much hope that at a later time we will have the opportunity to duly celebrate the successes of the Space Shuttle at another event.

We wish for everyone that the current situation in the world will quickly come to a positive turn and that the unspeakable suffering will be stopped.

Space Shuttle – Complex Machine & Workhorse

After the Apollo moon landings, there was a spirit of optimism in the space community. Thanks to the reusable space plane, the Space Shuttle was to initiate a new era of space flight, in which space travel would become as common as civil aviation.

For 30 years, the new spacecraft was the workhorse of NASA and its partners. It enabled incredible projects – including the launch and maintenance of the Hubble Space Telescope as well as the construction of the International Space Station ISS. However, the Space Shuttle also turned out to be a very complex machine that presented hazards and led to the deaths of two crews.

At Yuri's Night Switzerland, together with the Swiss Space Museum, we are proud to present four outstanding personalities who shaped the Space Shuttle program with their work.
